{"id":1172,"date":"2018-05-31T14:08:05","date_gmt":"2018-05-31T14:08:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/whatsupwindsor.com\/?p=1172"},"modified":"2018-05-31T14:08:05","modified_gmt":"2018-05-31T14:08:05","slug":"windsor-pool-blocked-from-hosting-big-meets-after-shark-spotted-in-deep-end","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/whatsupwindsor.com\/?p=1172","title":{"rendered":"Windsor pool blocked from hosting big meets after shark spotted in deep end"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whatsupwindsor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/thumbnailpark.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1173\" src=\"http:\/\/whatsupwindsor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/thumbnailpark-300x155.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"155\" srcset=\"http:\/\/whatsupwindsor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/thumbnailpark-300x155.jpg 300w, http:\/\/whatsupwindsor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/thumbnailpark-500x259.jpg 500w, http:\/\/whatsupwindsor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/thumbnailpark.jpg 630w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Windsor, ON \u2013 Swimming Canada announced today that the Windsor International Aquatic Centre would be prohibited from hosting events after a recent shark sighting in the pool.\u00a0 \u201cWe understand the city is working on the previously identified problem with the currents in the outer lanes but the shark issue will also need to be addressed\u201d said spokesperson Catherine Mead.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>City Councilman Frank Edwards announced that the city had a plan in place to capture or kill the shark.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019ve contacted a Dr. Hooper at the Oceanic Institute who is a leader in his field in regards to the habits and behaviours of sharks and we are confident he and his team will be able to bring this situation to a quick resolution\u201d.\u00a0 He added \u201cI just can\u2019t figure out how we missed\u00a0preventing\u00a0sharks from getting into the pool when we designed the Aquatic Centre\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Local fisherman Bartholomew Quint has also offered his services but has yet to hear back from the city. \u201cThey spend money on all sorts of crazy projects in Windsor\u00a0but when it comes to keeping sharks out of\u00a0city pools they never seem to have money in\u00a0the budget.\u00a0 And I am not asking for that much in the bigger scheme of things.\u00a0 $10,000 for me by myself.
